About SEC
The School of Economics (SEC) traces its roots to the very early days of the Center for Research and Communication (CRC), the University's forerunner. SEC was conceived when CRC began offering courses in Industrial Economics and Applied Business Economics. For more than 30 years now, the School has produced professional economists, corporate planners, and business analysts occupying key positions in private firms and government institutions.
Recognized as a leading economics school and as a catalyst of economic progress in the Philippines and in Asia, SEC has earned a reputation for highly relevant economic research. The major areas of its research activities include the fields of economic forecasting, financial markets, wage determination, and macroeconomics.
Degree Programs Master of Science in Industrial Economics The Industrial Economics Program has a unique focus on the analysis of industries and is the most direct route to knowledge-based professions that require a blend of mathematical expertise and thorough understanding of how the economy and business work.
Applied
Business Economics Program The ABEP is a Master’s
program for young managers who are looking for more than the
usual in a graduate business course.
In addition to
the fundamental management areas of production, marketing,
and finance, this master’s program also covers macroeconomic
and microeconomic analysis, industry analysis, forecasting,
and project analysis. Equipped with these tools and taught
how to wield them with precision, the ABEP graduate is prepared
to make keen analyses of the business and economic situation
of the company, the industry, and the country.
The course begins in July of every school
year. The courses are given in eight modules that have two
subjects each. Each subject runs once a week for ten weeks.
Class hours are from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. It features lectures,
research presentations, and class discussions. The first one
and a half years are devoted to coursework and the last semester
to thesis writing and defense. Strategic
Business Economics Program The SBEP is designed for
experienced executives holding top management positions, therefore
playing an active role in formulating and implementing the
overall strategies and management policies of their organizations.
Senior executives join the program to broaden their economic
perspective and enhance their capacity to handle the strategic
and long-term policy issues that confront their organizations;
to identify the fundamental trends and changes taking place
in the national and international economies and understand
how these influence the performance and prospects of regions,
sectors, industries, and their specific business firms; and
to reposition and optimize limited resources of their organization
so that it becomes adaptable to changes in the business environment,
thus, creating opportunities for growth. The Commission on
Higher Education (CHED) recognizes SBEP as a full graduate
degree program.
